BHK stands for Bedroom, Hall, Kitchen and is the most common way to describe the configuration of apartments and houses in India. The number before BHK indicates the number of bedrooms.
Common configurations: - 1 BHK: 1 Bedroom, 1 Hall (living room), 1 Kitchen — typically 400-700 sq.ft. - 2 BHK: 2 Bedrooms, 1 Hall, 1 Kitchen — typically 800-1,200 sq.ft. - 2.5 BHK: 2 Bedrooms + 1 study/utility room, 1 Hall, 1 Kitchen — typically 1,000-1,400 sq.ft. - 3 BHK: 3 Bedrooms, 1 Hall, 1 Kitchen — typically 1,200-2,000 sq.ft. - 3.5 BHK: 3 Bedrooms + 1 study/utility room — typically 1,500-2,200 sq.ft. - 4 BHK: 4 Bedrooms, typically with 2 halls — typically 2,000-3,500 sq.ft. - 5 BHK: 5+ Bedrooms — typically 3,000+ sq.ft., usually penthouses or luxury units
In Hyderabad's market: - 2 BHK and 3 BHK are the most popular configurations - 3 BHK dominates the mid-range and premium segments - 4 BHK is common in luxury projects around Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, Financial District - Most projects offer multiple BHK options within the same community
What BHK does NOT tell you: - The actual area (a 3 BHK can range from 1,200 to 2,500 sq.ft.) - Number of bathrooms (usually specified separately) - Balconies and terraces - Servant quarters or utility rooms - Quality of finishes
Always look at the floor plan and carpet area along with BHK to understand the actual space you are getting.
